IMDS Standard training

Duration: 16 hours (2 days of 8 hours each)

 

The IMDS Standard training is a course that provides participants with key knowledge in material data management in the automotive industry. The training consists of two modules that prepare participants for effective work with the IMDS system, offering both theoretical introduction and practical exercises.

 

Module 1: Theoretical introduction

The first part of the training focuses on legal regulations and the theoretical fundamentals of the IMDS system. Participants will learn about:

• Legal requirements – an overview of the most important regulations that directly impact compliance processes in the automotive industry, such as REACH, ELV, POPs, and BPR.
• GADSL (Global Automotive Declarable Substance List) – the core in IMDS. Participants will learn how IMDS uses GADSL and how to use the list for product analysis.
• International Material Data System – an introduction to IMDS as the main tool for material data management in the automotive industry.

This module provides a solid knowledge base that enables further effective use of the IMDS system.

 

Module 2: IMDS (International Material Data System)

In the second part, participants move on to practical work with the IMDS system. This includes:

• System administration – understanding IMDS administrative tools for users and legal entities.
• BSL (Basic Substance List) – participants will learn what substances are and their relationship to the GADSL and legal regulations.
• Working on products (MDS, MMDS, substance) – creating and implementing materials, components and semi-components, as well as building complex product structures.
• Data validation and submission – verification of material data received from suppliers and submission of material data to clients according to their official requirements.
• Recyclates – discussion on recommendation 025 regarding the use of recyclates in IMDS and analysis of their impact on material compliance.
• Data Analysis – Where Used Analysis (WuA) and MDS Detail Analysis.
• Working with recommendations – participants learn how to work according to IMDS recommendations 001, 001a and other applicable recommendations, to understand the current standards and best practices.

 

Who is the training for?

The training is dedicated to:

• Individuals responsible for regulatory compliance, material data management and chemical substance analysis in the automotive industry.
• Quality specialists, quality engineers, PPAP coordinators, SQA, SQD, internal auditors for QMS and EMS.
• Companies starting their activity in the automotive industry.

The course is suitable for both experienced specialists and those new to working with the IMDS.

Trainers

The training is conducted by experienced specialists who work daily with the IMDS system, supporting automotive companies in product analysis and material data management. Our trainers are also actively involved in collaboration with DXC and the IMDS Steering Committee, testing the IMDS system, proposing system changes and advising companies in the industry. Participants are informed of upcoming IMDS system changes, letting them stay prepared and adjust their processes to meet new requirements and features.
