IMDS Advanced Functions

Duration:
8 hours

The IMDS Advanced Functions training is an intensive, one-day practical course that prepares participants to work efficiently with the most advanced tools and functionalities of the IMDS system.

Module 1: Theoretical introduction

The first part of the training focuses on current and upcoming legal requirements that directly impact reporting and data management in the IMDS system, particularly in the context of functions covered by Recommendations 025, 026, and 027:

  • REACH Annex XIV – substances subject to authorization, IMDS reporting obligations, and dynamic flagging of substances included on the authorization list.
  • MCCP (Medium-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins) in the context of REACH and POPs – current status of restrictions (SVHC, proposed restrictions under REACH Annex XVII, and listing under the Stockholm Convention), impact on GADSL, and strategies for flagging and reporting in IMDS.
  • BPR (Biocidal Products Regulation) – implications for automotive components and treated articles, requirements related to active substances, and correct reporting of additional regulatory information via the Regulation Wizard.
  • EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) – due diligence requirements for products containing natural rubber (tires, transmission belts, automotive mats), supply chain traceability, and linkage with material reporting in IMDS.

This module provides a solid knowledge base, enabling further effective use of the advanced functions of the IMDS system.

Module 2: IMDS advanced functions in practise

The second part consists of intensive hands-on workshops in the IMDS system, using the latest functions and recommendations:

  • Recommendation 025 – Recyclates (comprehensive overview of the latest version, correct modeling of recycled materials, percentage calculations, and the most common errors and OEM rejections)
  • Recommendation 027 – Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) – complete entry and reporting of a product’s carbon footprint in IMDS (in line with the Catena-X PCF Rulebook V3), integration with Catena-X, and OEM-specific requirements (VW, BMW, Stellantis, Mercedes, Toyota, etc.)
  • Recommendation 026 – Regulation Wizard – advanced functionalities of the tool (formerly Chemistry Mana), full compliance with REACH (including Annex XIV) / SVHC / MCCP / BPR / EUDR, automatic flagging of substances of very high concern, and chemical and regulatory compliance management at the full product level.
  • Data analysis – Where Used Analysis (WuA) and MDS Detail Analysis.
  • Working in accordance with recommendations – participants work on and discuss topics in line with Recommendations 001, 001a, and other applicable recommendations, enabling an understanding of current standards and best practices.
  • Recyclates – discussion of Recommendation 025 regarding the use of recyclates in IMDS, including analysis of their impact on material compliance.
  • Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) – entry of product carbon footprint data in IMDS, discussion of requirements and methods for integrating information in accordance with Recommendation 027.
  • IMDS Regulation Wizard – basic information on the IMDS Regulation Wizard functions, its role in chemical compliance, and the key assumptions of Recommendation 026.
  • Data validation and submission – verification of material data received from suppliers and submission of material data to clients according to their official requirements.
  • IMDS Report – generating reports as a key element of conveying information about the material composition of products.
  • Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) – basic information about the possibility of reporting product carbon footprint in the IMDS system.

Who is the training for?

The training is designed for:

  • Individuals responsible for regulatory compliance, material data management and chemical substance analysis in the automotive industry.
  • Quality specialists, quality engineers, PPAP coordinators, SQA, SQD, internal auditors for QMS and EMS.
  • Companies that are starting their activity in the automotive industry.

The course is suitable for both experienced specialists and those new to working with IMDS and SCIP.

Why is it worth it?

  • Comprehensive approach – the training covers all available functionalities of the IMDS and SCIP systems.
  • Workshop format – the course is conducted as a workshop, with theoretical and practical examples based on real-life situations and daily practices in the automotive industry.
  • Certified access to the IMDS system – participants receive access to the training version of the IMDS system licensed by DXC, which is also compatible with the IMDS A2 Optimizer software. Unlike other training providers, there is no need for participants to have prior access.
  • Two IMDS accounts – each participant receives two separate IMDS accounts: one from the supplier’s side and one from the client’s side. This approach allows participants to fully understand the data exchange process across the entire supply chain.

Trainers

The training is conducted by experienced specialists who work daily with the IMDS system, supporting automotive companies in product analysis and material data management. Our trainers are also actively involved in collaboration with DXC and the IMDS Steering Committee, testing the IMDS system, proposing system changes and advising companies in the industry. Participants are informed of upcoming IMDS system changes, letting them stay prepared and adjust their processes to meet new requirements and features.

We invite you to register and take advantage of the knowledge of our experienced trainers!
